Alone in Paris, Thérèse no longer has anything to live for. That is, until her doorbell rings. Marie, her 20-year- old daughter who she rarely sees, has turned up on her doorstep at rue du Bac. She wants to escape the bourgeois society of the South-West and claims to be madly in love with a man named Mourad. Thérèse snaps out of her daze and asks to meet this young man. She quickly realises that he has no intentions of marrying Marie because he has his eyes on her instead...
