At a crossroads, a graveyard. Robrecht has come to put flowers on his mother’s grave;
Sara is there to mourn her young son. Both eye each other discreetly. He is captivated by
her genuine emotion; she is bothered by his presence. All seems to keep them apart, yet
Robrecht dares to proffer a handkerchief.
Moments later, they are drowning their sorrows in the local café. Robrecht attempts to
lift Sara’s spirits: on an impulse, he suggests that they go to the seaside.
